Man Down Winks Pull Through!

Despite only having 10 men the Winks emerged from a hard fought game with all 3 points, largely due to an impressive performance by goalkeeper Mark Appleby.

With only 10 men the Winks struggled to get the ball down and play the football that has been at the heart of many of their impressive wins this season. Catching Royals on the break and long searching balls proved the best way of unlocking their defence, especially with an irratic keeper filling the opposition goal.

It was one of these long balls which allowed Ed Carpenter to get in behind the Royals back four and finish cooly, curling the ball over keeper and into the back of the net.

Royals hit back despite a fine save from Apples however it wasn't long before the Winks were back ahead through another Carpenter strike. A mistake from the Royals' keeper left Ed able to loft the ball in an empty net from a good 40 yards, his second of the season from such distance!

Shortly after half time Royals were back in the game following an unfortunate deflected shot (debatable Phil Boddy own goal!) looped over Apples and into the corner of the net. With the scores level, Royals were then awarded a dubious penalty after the ball struck Markos Stratford on the arm in the box. An over confident Royals striker spotted the ball but was soon brought back down the earth after the Winks keeper produced another fine save, and then put the boot in with an amazing follow up point blank save!

Winks then stole all 3 points with 10 minutes remaining. Makeshift striker Dan Sleet got his reward for working hard all game when he climbed highest, beating their stranded keeper to the ball and headed into the empty net.

Final Score Winkfield FC 3 - 2 Bracknell Royals

Winks Line-Up:

M. Appleby, G.Webb, A. Parslow, P. Boddy, J. Ewart, E. Carpenter, L. Wright, R. Coupland, M. Stratford, D. Sleet

Regarding the website, the updates are getting there! All existing sections of the site (league table, top scorers etc.) should all be up-to-date. Squad section and Winkfield does 'Team Mates' is getting there and should be coming in the not too distant future!

Promising Starts for the Winks!

Time to get this site back up and running, so heres the latest Winks news for all our adoring fans.

Winkfield FC have made a solid start to their life as a Bracknell Sunday League Premiership side. A fantastic win on the opening day against last seasons cup winners, The Green Man, filled the team with confidence and optimism about what was always expected to be a tough season. Despite losses against William Twigg and Finchampstead, the boys have bounced back to smash both Embrook Inn and old rivals Bagshot Rd, 8-0 and 6-0 respectively.
The Winks now look to continue this form in Sunday's home tie to Bracknell Royals who are yet to pick up a point this season.

Winkfield Reserves have also made a good start to their season and currently sit in the top half of the table despite having played the least amount of games. The addition of the Wroxton boys over the summer seems to have greatly improved the squad and has made back to back promotions a realistic target for the Manager, Andy Clark.

The aim is to create a new player profile page for both teams in addition to bringing the rest of the site up to date!

This may take some time but be sure to check back for regular updates!
